*** DIY Decorative sugar: white and brown edition, pure and simple ***
By Suze on Apr 14, 2011 | In Home Decor, Handmade, Free!

Hello friends! I'm glad you liked my decorative sugar post for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (and don't forget the matching free printables here).
And there's actually more... You will think I'm obsessed with sugar and I have tons of it in my cupboards which is not totally wrong btw... But I'm so happy of the result of this new experiment I just had to show you!
Anyway, the other day I bought some brown sugar, which I love for that delicious vaguely burnt taste and the big dark gold crystals...

...and I thought I could try to do something with a candy mold I got recently in London and some cookie cutters.
This time I've tested with success a process that is even easier than the one I've shared for the colored sugar and the ingredients list even shorter: white and brown sugar + water. That's all.
Put some sugar on a plate or a board (you can do this with white and brown sugar and also mix them for an intermediate hue). Add a small quantity of water until the sugar is wet but NOT melted, the sugar crystals must still be well visible and it should feel like a grainy paste. Knead with your fingers and use a tea spoon to fill the mold.

Or you can spread an even layer of sugar not less thick than half cm on a nonstick board and cut out shapes with the cookie cutters. The shapes that you can then hang to the tea cups are ideal for this project but you should avoid very complex and detailed shapes with tiny parts or they will break very easily...

I allowed the sugar to dry for one night, but I think few hours could actually be enough. The dried sugar shapes were very easy to remove (except for the brown sugar that didn't dry just completely and in general deasn't seem to give as perfect results as the white one) and they came out really pretty, I think.

Love this rustic and natural look...

Also in this case you could use the sugar as party favor, just add a simple cute package...

Hope you liked this new version! And I promise not to mention sugar on my blog for at least 1 month! :)
Have a lovely day!

In questo caso, sembra ancora più facile! Forse ce la posso fare anche io ;)
